Manila in the Philippines probably brings up a scene of chaotic crowds and traffic in gridlock, but look beyond this and you’ll find a vibrant and refreshing getaway that captures the true heart of the Filipino capital. I had the opportunity to stay at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza, the only five star Manila accommodation in the city.
The Sofitel redefines a luxury hotel experience by celebrating ‘art de vivre’, a French expression that translates into ‘the art of living’. When I dived into the lagoon pool, I almost forgot that I was on a family vacation in a bustling city and felt like I was transported to a tropical island.
Being surrounded by the beautiful details of the French-inspired buildings and landscaping, combined with the warm Filipino hospitality was truly a a breath of fresh air. If you fancy five-star poolside dining, there’s also an inviting buffet spread that’s provided to guests next to the pool. Go on, treat yourself.
On the beachfront, there’s a line of comfortable bean bags to sit back and relax in whilst you enjoy the unrivalled views of Manila Bay. For the modern traveller, it’s become instinctive to instantly grab your DSLR or your mobile phone to Instagram or Snapchat your experiences. I was definitely tempted but the serenity of my surroundings made me stop and take in the moment while it lasted.
The graceful refinement and tropical elegance that personified this resort hotel inside and out made my stay a truly memorable one.
